“Bravery is being the only person who knows you’re afraid”
We are all scared of different things…
But only a few of us have an extreme kind of fear – Phobia. Fear in general is a healthy sensation that protects us from imminent danger and helps us respond to a threat. The difference between fear and phobia is rooted in the fact that Phobia incites an extreme and overexaggerated reaction to a specific thing which is perceived as a threat, which many times is not an actual threat at all.
Phobias can be created over daily and common things, things that most people don’t even pay attention to such as elevators, needles, darkness or cockroaches. But for those who suffer from phobia – these things can be the, most shocking, disgusting and paralyzing thing in the world for them. The thing about phobia is that those who suffer from it do understand that there is no immediate danger to their safety, but are still having a hard time to control their panic reaction when encountering the cause of their phobia, or even just when thinking about it.
Fear paralyzes, Phobia disrupts
The issue with extreme forms of fear and phobias is that the reaction they cause is damaging our ability to function on a day-to-day basis. Phobia is a slippery slope, which brings the person suffering from it to avoid places, events and situations where they could potentially encounter their Phobia. It also negatively affects their self-image and confidence, their relationships, their job and academic performance. These are just some of the main aspects of life that can get distorted as a result of an uncontrollable phobia, especially when it is not treated properly. A lot of people mix up the presence of the phobias and fears in their lives as a part of their identity or their character and see it as an inseparable part of their lives and that is why many times, they don’t take care of the problem in a conscious and critical way. A life filled with phobias and fears, especially nonrational ones, can be very difficult. But it is no way unavoidable, and I have just the right tools to defeat them.
It is much easier to be scared together
